Rarely has the German Expressionism of the BRÜCKE artists' association been so prominently represented at Grisebach as in the upcoming autumn auction!
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's iconic painting "Akte im Wald" (Fehmarn) from 1912 has the highest estimate (EUR 1,200,000-1,500,000), followed by Erich Heckel's early and colourful masterpiece "Blaue Iris" from 1908 (EUR 1,000,000-1,500,000). Otto Mueller's "Drei Badende und rotbraune Bäume" (c. 1914, EUR 700,000-900,000) will be on offer, while Max Pechstein is represented with the glowing landscape painting "Morgenrot" from 1919 (EUR 250,000-350,000). Emil Nolde's close connection with Hamburg is shown by his furious painting "Segelboot" (Hamburger Hafen) from 1910 (EUR 400,000-600,000).
Following our brilliant success in spring 2018, when we achieved the highest auction price ever achieved in Germany with Max Beckmann's "Egyptian Woman" (EUR 5.5 million), we have now been entrusted with two large-format watercolours by the artist from the 1930s (EUR 250,000-350,000 each). We are also offering 35 prints by Max Beckmann from a German private collection, including the famous "Selbstbildnis mit steifem Hut" (EUR 50,000-70,000).
Masterpieces by Lovis Corinth (EUR 350,000-450,000), Paula Modersohn-Becker (EUR 200,000-300,000), Gabriele Münter (EUR 150,000-250,000), Alexej von Jawlensky (EUR 300,000-400,000), Karl Hofer (EUR 250,000-350,000) and Otto Dix (EUR 250,000-350,000) round off the Classical Modernism programme. In the field of post-war art, important paintings by Ernst Wilhelm Nay (EUR 250,000-350,000) and Gerhard Hoehme (EUR 100,000-120,000) stand out, among others.
