What does Online Only actually mean?

We use the term online only to describe timed auctions. These auctions end at a defined time, the highest bid wins and is awarded the contract.

The auction therefore takes place without an auctioneer and exclusively on the Internet. Any bids can be placed at any time before the end of the defined auction time (see also the extension rule for short-term bids immediately before the end of the auction time).

As a rule, the auction period for the first lot ends at 6 pm on the last day of the auction. The following lot numbers then expire at one-minute intervals. The precise time of the end of the auction is also displayed for each lot in the 24 hours before the end of the auction.

I am in Berlin during the auction period. Can I have a look at the artworks?

We appreciate your interest and would be happy to present the works on offer to you in person if possible. Please write to us at onlineonly@grisebach.com. We will then arrange an appointment with you to view your works. Please also let us know how we can best reach you.

Is there a printed catalogue?

Online Only!

How can I take part in a Grisebach Timed Auction?

You can view all the works offered in our auctions on the Internet without registering.

As soon as you want to actively participate in the auction or, for example, memorise lots electronically, you must register with Grisebach using your personal e-mail address.

Please register once on our website and create a personal customer account.

We organise online-only auctions exclusively in the form of timed auctions. In addition, we organise traditional face-to-face auctions twice a year where you can also bid live online with your online registration.

Do I have to register to bid?

If you want to bid at Grisebach for the first time, we need additional information from you due to the strict regulations. Only then can we authorise you to bid. Please allow one working day for this process.

In this case, we will contact you and will probably ask you for your identity card. We may also ask you questions about your previous activities at auctions. We are doing this because, among other things, we have made a commitment to the consignors of the artworks to ensure that the auction runs smoothly. We ask for your understanding. Of course, we will not pass this information on to third parties.

Can I bid against myself?

As long as you bid with your personal account, this is impossible.

Can I cancel a submitted bid?

The bid you place is binding. It cannot be cancelled. Please write to us at onlineonly@grisebach.com if you have any further questions or if unauthorised third parties have gained access to your account so that we can immediately block it.

Can I choose my bid freely or are bidding steps predetermined?

You are free to choose your bid amount, it just has to be at least equal to the next minimum bid.

Can I collect my purchases myself?

Collection is possible by prior arrangement with our logistics service provider. You will receive this information with the invoice. We will pack the artwork for you. Write to us at onlineonly@grisebach.com and tell us how we can best reach you.

Can I place a bid below the starting price?

No. The starting price corresponds to the minimum bid and is therefore the lowest amount that can be bid.

Does my bid correspond to the final price I have to pay?

The bids are net bids. Premiums and, in special cases, VAT will be added.

How can I pay?

On receipt of the invoice, you have a choice of different payment options: We prefer payment by bank transfer. However, you can also pay on site by credit card (Visa, Mastercard) or EC card. You can also send us the invoice amount via Paypal (paypal@grisebach.com).

How do I find out that I have been outbid?

You will automatically receive an e-mail notification from us if you have been outbid. You can also view the status of your current bids in your account under "Bids placed".

How do I get my artwork?

Once payment has been received in full, the artwork you have purchased will be ready for collection from our logistics service provider or will be dispatched to you as instructed. The costs for transport and insurance are at your expense.

Grisebach works with highly specialised transport companies. The artworks are always sent unframed by us, even if we show them framed in Berlin. Some artworks can only be shipped framed. These exceptions are described separately in the shipping instructions.

Where it is possible and sensible to do so in advance, we have already calculated the shipping costs and noted them in the shipping instructions for the lots. If you agree to this, you are welcome to instruct us to pack and ship your artwork. We will then automatically invoice you for the transport costs incurred. Please contact us if you require additional information or if you would like us to obtain a quotation.

How do I know if I have been awarded the contract?

You can see your winning bids in your account under "Won lots". If you have been outbid, you will also be notified by e-mail.

How do I raise my bid?

Simply enter a higher bid, you cannot bid against yourself if you are logged in with your personal account.

I have placed bids in auctions at Grisebach before. Do I need to register again?

If you have recently been a customer at Grisebach and we already have your personal information, we will contact you to ensure that your data is up to date. After that, we will activate your bidding rights.

I have already bid at Grisebach auctions via Lot-tissimo.com. Do I have to register again?

You can also participate in Grisebach's Timed Auctions via Lot-tissimo.com or the-saleroom.com. In this case, please use your existing account there.

I have previously registered on grisebach.com for auctions and search requests: Can I also use my user data for Grisebach Timed Auctions?

No, unfortunately not. You will need to register for this new type of auction.

Is my maximum bid visible to other people?

Your maximum bid is not visible to anyone. Even you cannot see whether the current highest bidder has possibly already placed an even higher maximum bid. You can only recognise this by making a bid step, which may then be immediately outbid again.

Under what conditions is the bidding period extended?

If a bid is placed for a lot in the last two minutes before the bidding time expires, the bidding time for this lot is automatically extended by two minutes. This is to ensure that the highest bidder up to that point has another chance to place a higher bid if necessary.

What does maximum bid mean?

You have the option of placing a maximum bid for a lot. A maximum bid indicates the highest amount you wish to bid for a lot. The bid will only be utilised to the extent that another bidder bids against you.

What purchase price should I expect for my auctioned artwork?

The buyer's premium is added to the hammer price you offer. For some works of art, we also have to charge VAT on the hammer price and the buyer's premium. The premium is often a flat rate of 32%. In special cases it is 39%. In these cases, the artwork has been imported into the EU and we have had to pay import VAT. Some works of art are sold subject to regular taxation. In these cases, we charge a premium of 27% on the hammer price. We then have to add the VAT applicable at the time of the auction to the hammer price and the buyer's premium.

When will I receive my invoice?

We will send your invoice to your registered e-mail address within approximately two working days. If you instruct us to transport your artwork immediately after the auction, we will also invoice you for the transport costs incurred.

Where can I see if my bid has been accepted?

In the catalogue view, you will see confirmation in green that you are currently the highest bidder. You will also see this if you switch to "Your account" and display your bids there.

If you cannot find your bid here, there was an error during transmission. Please try again.

I have forgotten my password, what should I do?

If you have forgotten your password, you can request to reset it at the login window. Afterwards, a link will be sent to your registered email that will enable you to create a new password.
