In the autumn auction for Modern and Contemporary Photography on 29 November, a total turnover of EUR 797,250* was achieved with a lower estimate of EUR 661,200. The highest hammer price was for Frank Thiel's 12-part photo installation "The Allies" from the Wolfgang Joop Collection, which went to a private collection in northern Germany for EUR 100,000*. After a lengthy bidding battle, a German collector was able to prevail with EUR 77,500* (estimate EUR 50,000-70,000) for Edward Steichen's "Foxgloves". The photomontage by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (photo: Curt Rehbein) was also contested, and was finally acquired by a private collector from Germany. The photograph of the "Bank and office building in Stuttgart" realised EUR 41,250* (estimated price EUR 10,000-15,000).
The important but difficult work "Hiroshima" by Christer Strömholm was able to defend its iconic status at EUR 17,500* (estimate EUR 6,000-8,000). Otto Steinert's "Appell" went on sale in Germany for EUR 20,000* (estimate EUR 12,000-15,000).
Brilliant in its beauty, the fashion print by Louis Faurer "Bowing Dress" realised EUR 19,375* (estimate EUR 8,000-10,000) and is now delighting a private collector.
Aenne Biermann's vintage "Spielbälle" with 8,125 EUR* (estimate 1,500-2,000 EUR) and Marta Hoepffner's "Feuervogel" with 6,500 EUR* (estimate 800-1,000 EUR), both knocked down to the trade, were able to significantly increase their estimates.
