In the spring auction for Modern and Contemporary Photography on Wednesday, 1 June, the "Negative Portrait Wera Meyer-Waldeck", an extremely rare vintage print by Bauhaus photographer Gertrud Arndt, met with great bidding interest and achieved an international auction record price for the photographer (private collection, Switzerland) at EUR 52,500* (estimate EUR 10,000-15,000). The most expensive lot of the auction was Peter Beard's portrait of the Pop Art artist Andy Warhol, which was acquired by a German collector for EUR 70,000* (estimate EUR 50,000-70,000). Peter Keetman's unique "Konvolut für Bernd Lohse" went to Great Britain for EUR 56,250* (estimate EUR 45,000-55,000).
There were also high hammer prices for the large-format "Portrait A. Roters" by Thomas Ruff, which went to an American collector for 31,250 EUR* (estimate 25,000-30,000 EUR), and for the vintage "Sonnenblume" (Sunflower) by Edward Steichen, modelled in 1921 with light, which also went to an American collection for 25,000 EUR* (estimate 20,000-30,000 EUR). Two further works by Peter Beard, the oversized print "Large Tusker" and the small-format painting "Giraffes in Mirage" were sold to German collectors for EUR 23,750* each (estimated prices EUR 20,000-30,000/ EUR 10,000-15,000). Hiroshi Sugimoto's "Red Sea, Safaga" was also acquired by a German private collector for EUR 22,500* (estimate EUR 18,000-22,000).
Two early works on the theme of "Trinkhallen" by Tata Ronkholz achieved a further auction record. They were purchased by a German bidder for EUR 9,750* and EUR 9,375* respectively (estimate EUR 2,500-3,500 each).
A total turnover of EUR 601,187* was achieved (sales ratio 84%).
