With a lower estimate of € 596,100, the Villa Grisebach's autumn auction for photography achieved a total turnover of € 655,250*. This corresponds to a sales quota of 110 %.
The highest hammer prices of the auction went to two works by Peter Beard. The portrait "Fayel Tall. El Molo Bay, Lake Rudolf" was fiercely contested and went to a German private collection for € 37,500 (estimate € 14,000/18,000). Another German collector bought Beard's "Maureen at 2:00 am, Hog Ranch" at auction for € 36,250 (estimate € 20,000/30,000). Hiroshi Sugimoto's "Sea of Japan Hokkaido I" from the "Seascapes" series went on sale in Germany for € 22,500.
A German dealer acquired the extraordinary "Panorama of Moscow", which had been in the family since 1868, for € 19,375 (estimate 6,000/8,000). A rare pigment print by the Czech photographic artist Frantisek Drtikol was purchased for € 18,750 by an American collector, and the bromoil transfer "Esche" by Rudolf Koppitz for € 18,750 by an Austrian dealer (estimate € 15,000/20,000 each).
Roman Vishniac's photograph "Chederschüler" from the portfolio "The Vanished World" met with great interest from bidders. Numerous bidders raised the work to a sale price of € 14,750, with which a collector from Switzerland finally prevailed (estimate 2,000/3,000).
